Teachers employed in various districts of Bihar had staged a torchlight procession last Saturday (February 10) in opposition to the competency examination. Now, the Education Department has taken a firm stance on teachers participating in this procession. Following directives from the Additional Chief Secretary K.K. Pathak, the Director of Secondary Education has written letters to all district education officers in the state. He instructed them to identify teachers involved in the torchlight procession and take strict disciplinary action against them. The department should be immediately informed of this information.

Contrary to the conduct of teachers, the Director of Secondary Education wrote in the letter to district education officers that there are reports of appointed teachers in various districts organizing torchlight processions against the competency examination. All these activities by appointed teachers are completely contrary to the conduct expected from teachers.

Priority on Demonstrators

In fact, the Education Department wants to end any movement opposing the competency examination at any cost. The department has stated that stringent departmental action will be taken against such protesters, and the possibility of initiating primary action against them has also been mentioned. It is worth noting that appointed teachers have announced a major protest in Patna against the competency examination on February 13.

Compulsory for Appointed Teachers to Pass Competency Exam

It should be mentioned that it is mandatory for appointed teachers to take the competency examination and pass it. Teachers will be given four chances to pass the examination, out of which three attempts are compulsory. If a teacher fails the exam, they will be dismissed from their job. A committee formed under the chairmanship of K.K. Pathak had decided on this in recent days.

What Appointed Teachers Have to Say

Appointed teachers argue that the government wants to impose a commission on teachers under the guise of the competency examination. When it is the turn for the promotion of appointed teachers, the government wants to impose a new rule on them. The government does not want to provide service benefits. The teachers question how many times the government will conduct exams. The government’s specific teacher regulations are against the teachers.
