“Niti Aayog Report: Multi-dimensional poverty higher in Bihar’s Seemanchal districts compared to others. Araria district records the highest poverty rate in the state, with 52.07% of its population falling under Niti Aayog’s defined criteria for multi-dimensional poverty. In contrast, Siwan district exhibits the lowest poverty rate, with only 17.14% of its population classified as poor. The Niti Aayog report highlights significant reductions in poverty rates over a specific period in East Champaran and Shivhar, witnessing declines of 27.74% and 26.23%, respectively. Seemanchal, particularly Siwan, credits improvements in nutrition, school education, sanitation, clean water, electricity, banking services, and cooking fuel for progress in alleviating multi-dimensional poverty (MPI) in the state. The number of individuals escaping poverty continues to rise steadily.”
