In the aftermath of the November 17 polls, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a decisive victory with 163 seats in the 230-member assembly, the party is now set to appoint the Chief Minister for Madhya Pradesh. Three central observers, including Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, arrived in Bhopal on Monday to lead a meeting with the newly-elected party MLAs.

State party chief VD Sharma and other leaders welcomed the observers at the Bhopal airport, where they later proceeded to the chief minister’s residence for discussions with CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The observers, Khattar, OBC Morcha head K Laxman, and secretary Asha Lakra, are scheduled to meet the MLAs at 4 pm on Monday. The announcement of the new Chief Minister is expected to follow later in the evening.

This victory marks the BJP’s fifth term in Madhya Pradesh over two decades, having previously come to power in 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2020. The state BJP office adorned with flowers and posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflects the party’s celebratory mood.

Stay tuned for updates on this political development.
