In an unfortunate incident during a routine vehicle checking operation at Power House Chowk in the jurisdiction of Kazi Muhammadpur police station in Muzaffarpur, advocate Pankaj Kumar found himself at the receiving end of alleged police brutality. The incident transpired around 11:53 PM, as police were conducting vehicle inspections.

According to reports, Constable Rohit Kumar, during the checking process, signaled a car to stop at the checkpoint. However, the driver failed to comply, leading to a tense situation. In response, Constable Rohit, without any apparent malicious intent, waved his stick in an attempt to halt the vehicle. Regrettably, the situation took an unfortunate turn as the stick struck advocate Pankaj Kumar in the eye.

Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, SSP Rakesh Kumar took swift action, suspending Constable Rohit Kumar for his involvement in the incident. Notably, the Station In-charge was reportedly absent from the scene at the time of the occurrence.

The advocate, who practices in the Hathaundi police station area and had returned from a wedding in Balughat, Muzaffarpur, with his entire family in the car, filed a written complaint at the police station. In the complaint, he detailed the sequence of events leading to the alleged assault, emphasizing that it occurred without any apparent provocation.

Reacting to the severity of the incident, the District Bar Association promptly addressed a letter to the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, urging stringent action against the implicated police officer. The letter emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the matter and demanded justice for the advocate who sustained injuries during the encounter.

The case has sparked considerable public concern, prompting authorities to take immediate steps. The suspended constable is now awaiting further investigation, while Pankaj Kumar, the advocate, has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata. He is scheduled to undergo a crucial eye operation on Sunday in the hope of restoring his vision, as doctors express guarded optimism about the outcome. The incident highlights the delicate balance required in law enforcement and the consequences when such balance is disrupted.
