Raipur:In a political shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the verge of a decisive victory in the Chhattisgarh assembly elections, with their electoral strategy, encapsulated in the ‘Modi ki Guarantee 2023′ campaign, gaining significant traction. The party has already secured victory in 25 seats and is leading in 29 more, positioning itself for a return to power in the tribal-dominated state.

The 2018 assembly polls saw the Congress sweeping to victory, fueled by anti-incumbency sentiments against the BJP government. The Congress’ success was further bolstered by promises of freebies and welfare measures. However, the current trends indicate a shift in favor of the BJP.

The BJP’s campaign focused on countering pro-farmer, pro-tribal, and pro-poor schemes implemented by the incumbent Bhupesh Baghel government. The Congress, on the other hand, relied on initiatives such as loan waivers for farmers, increased financial assistance for landless laborers, free education from KG to PG, and free electricity up to 200 units.

Political analysts note that the BJP’s defeat in 2018 was partly attributed to a perceived weakness in their manifesto. Learning from the past, the BJP, in its ‘Modi ki Guarantee 2023’ manifesto, made populist promises, including procuring 21 quintals of paddy per acre, financial assistance to married women, construction of 18 lakh houses, and various other commitments.

While the Congress had its share of promises, including higher paddy procurement rates and financial assistance to various segments, the BJP’s campaign, anchored in Prime Minister Modi’s guarantee, appears to have struck a chord with the electorate.

As the counting continues, the BJP’s imminent return to power in Chhattisgarh signals a significant political shift, with voters seemingly favoring the ‘Modi ki Guarantee’ over the Congress’s promises of freebies.
