The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has witnessed chaos during a meeting regarding the upcoming student union elections. According to sources, a clash erupted between members of the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) affiliated with the RSS and leftist groups during a meeting convened to conduct student union elections. Both sides claim injuries to their members, but as of now, the JNU administration has not issued any response.

The University General Body Meeting (UGBM) held at Sabarmati Dhaba to select members for the Election Commission of the 2024 JNU Student Union Elections turned contentious. The Democratic Students Federation (DSF), associated with the leftist AISA, accused ABVP members of forcibly entering the platform where ABVP members allegedly engaged in physical altercations with members and speakers.

Videos shared on social media depict heated arguments between ABVP and JNUSU members, with university security attempting to control the situation. The Students Federation of India (SFI) claimed that ABVP students attacked JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, throwing water at her during the scuffle. Such disrespectful behavior towards a female JNU student will not be tolerated, as stated in a released statement.

No official response has been received regarding these allegations. Right-wing student groups claim that DSF activists assaulted JNU Secretary Vikas Patel, while also accusing Prashant Bagchi, another student, of being targeted during the clash. ABVP alleges a severe attack on final-year student Prafull with a sharp weapon. They also claim an assault on a differently-abled B.A. Persian student, Divyaprakash, for supporting ABVP.

A large gathering of students at Sabarmati Dhaba for voting in the UGBM elections witnessed these incidents. The JNU administration is yet to address the unfolding situation.
