New Delhi, In a resolute statement, the Congress party has boldly declared there is no prevalent anti-incumbency sentiment against the incumbent Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot. Gaurav Gogoi, a prominent Congress Member of Parliament, expressed this viewpoint after presiding over a meeting of the party’s screening committee for Rajasthan, held in the presence of key state leaders in the national capital.

Furthermore, Gogoi didn’t mince words when he accused the rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of fielding its Members of Parliament (MPs) in the forthcoming state assembly elections due to a growing trepidation of losing in the consequential 2024 parliamentary elections. He noted a significant undercurrent of anti-incumbency against these nominated MPs.

Gogoi elaborated, “For years, Rajasthan has followed a tradition where the government changes every five years. However, this time around, we have closely observed that there is a remarkable absence of anti-incumbency against the present government and its chief minister.”

“This impending shift from tradition is causing apprehension within the BJP, leading them to nominate MPs with substantial opposition in the assembly elections. It is a direct consequence of the mounting anti-incumbency as they anticipate challenges in securing Lok Sabha victories in the upcoming parliamentary polls,” Gogoi added.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who aspires to secure another term for his government, also held meetings with former party chief Sonia Gandhi and the party’s treasurer, Ajay Maken.

Rajasthan is poised for assembly polls on November 30, where 200 state assembly seats are up for contention.

When questioned about the potential Chief Ministerial candidate for Rajasthan, Gogoi indicated that the party will adhere to customary procedures.

Concerning the announcement of party candidates, Gogoi suggested that the BJP seems privy to insider information regarding the imposition of the model code and election schedules, thus enabling them to adjust their preparations accordingly.

He concluded, “The Congress party is fully engaged and well-prepared. We are confident about emerging victorious in this upcoming election.”

In the midst of a competitive political landscape, the forthcoming Rajasthan assembly elections have piqued public interest as the Congress party seeks to defy the historical alternation of power within the state.
