New Delhi: Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Manish Tiwari has advocated for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to be conducted using paper ballots instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), citing concerns related to manipulation and hacking.

In an interview with news agency ANI, Tiwari emphasized the importance of preserving democracy, stating, “Democracy is too precious to be left to technology. The question is not whether EVMs are manipulated; the question is that EVMs can be manipulated.”

Tiwari further elaborated that EVMs, being machines, are susceptible to tampering and hacking, raising questions about their reliability. He expressed his perplexity at the Election Commission of India’s unwavering reliance on EVMs, highlighting that even countries that had initially adopted EVMs had reverted to paper ballots due to vulnerabilities in the electronic system.

He concluded by asserting that the 2024 elections should be conducted using paper ballots.
