In a recent development, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued a public warning regarding fraudulent calls originating from international numbers spreading false information about Indian stock exchanges. The DoT advises individuals to report such instances to their respective telecom service providers. The motive behind these malicious calls, according to an official statement, is to create panic and appears to be initiated by anti-national elements.

Telecom Companies Instructed to Block Suspicious Numbers

The DoT has not only alerted the public about these fraudulent calls on social media but has also instructed leading telecom companies, including Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone-Idea, and BSNL, to block calls originating from these suspicious international numbers.

According to the information shared by the DoT, the recorded message in these calls suggests individuals sell Indian stocks before March 12, claiming an imminent destruction of the stock market in India, including the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange.

In response to these deceptive calls, the DoT release states, “Individuals who receive such calls are advised to report them to the DoT at [email protected] or to their telecom service providers.”
