In a tense turn of events, an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team faced hostility and vehicular damage during a raid on the residence of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) block-level functionary in North 24 Parganas. The operation was part of an alleged ration scam investigation.

The ED team, engaged in raiding the premises of block-level leaders Shahjahan Sheikh and Shankar Adhya, alongside their relatives, encountered resistance from hundreds of men and women gathered at the scene. The crowd shouted slogans, leading to an attack on officials and causing damage to at least one vehicle.

The raid, conducted under the security of central forces, aimed to uncover details related to the alleged ration scam. State food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick has already been arrested in connection with the case.

When attempts to enter Sheikh’s house were met with opposition, the ED officials were forced to abandon the search operation for their safety. The officials reported the incident and are returning to Kolkata.
