In a surprising turn of events, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made a significant adjustment to the schedule for the forthcoming Rajasthan Assembly Elections. Originally slated for the 23rd of November, the elections will now be conducted on the 25th of November, with the vote count scheduled for the 3rd of December.
The decision by the ECI is predicated on the prevalence of what they term “large-scale” weddings and social engagements in Rajasthan on the initially planned date. The Commission’s official statement articulates that it has been inundated with appeals from various political entities, social organizations, and media platforms, all clamoring for a change in the election date. This chorus of voices emphasized the potential inconvenience that the originally proposed date might cause to a substantial portion of the population, not to mention logistical challenges and a potential decrease in voter participation during the Rajasthan assembly poll.
Consequently, in response to these considerations, the Election Commission has opted to move the polling date from the 23rd of November, 2023 (Thursday), to the 25th of November, 2023 (Saturday).

Back then, the anti-incumbency sentiment prevailed, and the BJP government under Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was voted out of office. In terms of vote share, the Congress garnered 39.03 percent, edging out the BJP, which secured 38.08 percent.
