Patna, Signage similar to those on the National Highway (NH) will be installed on State Highways (SH) and major roads within the state.
The department is making efforts to curb the increasing number of road accidents. Instructions have been issued to install signs on both old and new roads. The process of installing indicators will be adopted only during the construction of new roads. However, the installation of indicators on already constructed roads will be carried out systematically. It is noteworthy that there are more than 15 thousand kilometers of roads under the Road Construction Department in Bihar, connecting the district headquarters. Additionally, major roads within the cities are also under the Road Construction Department.
Half of all road accidents occur on these roads.
Information about the appropriate speed, according to the capacity of the roads, will also be provided on the boards. Through this initiative, the department hopes that drivers will adhere to these signs.
Drivers will be required to follow the rules. Failure to comply will result in actions being taken against them, including fines as per rules and other legal provisions.
Information will also be provided through the board. Details regarding speed breakers, densely populated areas, schools, hospitals, or other important institutions will also be displayed through signage.
In addition to information signs, details such as ‘Road is Winding’, ‘Road is Narrow’, ‘Bridge is Weak’, ‘Width of the Bridge is Less’, etc., will also be included.
Signage Should be Large and Clearly Visible, Especially in Bad Weather
Signage will be placed in such a way that it provides complete information about the road. Boards that fail to alert drivers about the road will not be installed. Furthermore, it has been instructed to include local languages, in addition to Hindi and English, on the signage for the convenience of the public.
The Road Construction Department has made the decision to reduce road accidents by installing indicators. A letter has been sent by the department to the engineers to install the indicators. Citing road accidents happening in the state, the department has stressed that drivers should receive accurate information about signage while traveling. It is essential that there will be boards related to road structure as well as road safety, such as having a sharp turn.
