New Delhi – In a momentous development, President Droupadi Murmu has granted her formal assent to the Women’s Reservation Bill, marking a significant milestone in Indian legislative history. This transformative bill paves the way for a groundbreaking shift, offering a resounding 33% reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and State assemblie

As per a notification from the esteemed Law Ministry, dated September 29, 2023, it was officially confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu provided her assent on September 28. This landmark legislation will henceforth bear the distinguished title of the “Constitution (106th Amendment) Act.”

As outlined within the bill’s provisions, it is stipulated that its activation shall be contingent upon a notification issued by the central government in the Official Gazette. This carefully structured approach ensures a systematic rollout of the legislation.

This watershed moment, characterized by President Murmu’s approval, heralds a new era of gender parity within India’s political landscape. The bill’s passage is a testament to the country’s commitment to empowering women and providing them with the platform they deserve in the nation’s democratic processes.

As the nation awaits the practical implementation of this historic legislation, it stands as a symbol of progress and inclusivity, firmly positioning India on the path toward gender equality and political empowerment.
