In a bold move, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has declared his intention to launch a state-wide movement if the central government does not grant special category status to Bihar promptly. Kumar, a key figure in the Janata Dal (United) party, has been advocating for this special status for several years, emphasizing its crucial role in the state’s progress.

Speaking at a public event, Kumar asserted, “If the Centre does not grant special status to Bihar at the earliest, we will launch a state-wide movement. The demand for a special status will be heard in every nook and corner of the state during the movement.” He went on to state that those opposing this demand are not genuinely interested in the state’s development.

Kumar highlighted recent legislative initiatives in Bihar, including bills to increase quotas for deprived castes in government jobs and educational institutions. These bills, based on a caste survey conducted by the state government, aim to raise the overall reservation from 50% to 75%. Kumar argued that the demand for special status is imperative for the state’s immediate progress, enabling the implementation of welfare initiatives within two and a half years.

The chief minister expressed optimism about the governor’s approval of the bills related to reservation and emphasized their significance for the upliftment of socially, educationally, and economically backward sections of society.

Bihar’s political landscape is poised for potential upheaval as Nitish Kumar takes a firm stance in the pursuit of special category status, underscoring its critical role in the state’s socio-economic development.
