In a recent statement, the Ministry of External Affairs in India reiterated its unwavering support for the establishment of an autonomous, sovereign, and sustainable state of Palestine. The statement was made by Arindam Bagchi, the official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.

India has consistently advocated for the resumption of direct negotiations aimed at creating an independent and viable Palestinian state, existing within secure and internationally recognized borders, coexisting peacefully alongside Israel. This reaffirmation comes amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and marks India’s first official response to the situation.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has previously condemned the attacks on Israel by Hamas and expressed solidarity with Israel during this challenging period. In addition to addressing the humanitarian situation in both Israel and Gaza, Bagchi highlighted the universal obligation to observe humanitarian law and the collective responsibility to combat terrorism in all its forms.

Regarding the repatriation of Indian citizens from Israel, Bagchi informed the press that the first flight, part of ‘Operation Ajay’, is scheduled to arrive in India. Approximately 18,000 Indians reside in Israel, and while some have been injured, there have been no casualties reported so far. The government has made significant efforts to facilitate the return of stranded Indians, with a focus on their safety.

As the situation in the Middle East continues to evolve, India’s stance underscores its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region, fostering dialogue, and advocating for the rights and sovereignty of the Palestinian people.
