New Delhi: In a strategic move amidst the ongoing India-Maldives diplomatic row, the Israeli Embassy lent support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Taking part in the #ExploreIndianIslands trend on social media, the embassy showcased the picturesque Lakshadweep Islands, emphasizing their “enchanting allure.” The display aimed to counter derogatory remarks made by Maldives ministers against PM Modi in the wake of his recent Lakshadweep visit.

The Israeli Embassy’s post on the microblogging platform X stated, “We were in Lakshadweep last year upon the federal government’s request to initiate the desalination program. Israel is ready to commence working on this project tomorrow.”

This diplomatic gesture comes after Maldives Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Mariyam Shiuna, disparaged PM Modi in now-deleted tweets on X, calling him a ‘clown’ and ‘puppet of Israel.’ The posts were removed following a public backlash on social media.

Prominent Indian celebrities have also joined the discourse, encouraging people to explore Lakshadweep as an alternate tourist destination.
