Lok Sabha Polls: 97 Crore Registered Voters, 10.5 Lakh Polling Stations In India

The Election Commission of India is set to announce the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections today. Here are some key details regarding the upcoming polls:

– There are a total of 96.8 crore registered voters eligible to participate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
– This includes 1.8 crore individuals who recently turned 18 and will be exercising their voting rights for the first time.
– In 12 Indian states, the number of women voters exceeds that of men.
– There are 88.4 lakh voters with disabilities, including 48,000 individuals from the transgender community.
– To facilitate the election process, 10.5 lakh polling stations will be established across the country.
– A workforce of 1.5 crore polling officials will be deployed to manage these polling stations.
– The elections will witness the use of 55 lakh electronic voting machines (EVMs) to conduct the voting process.
– The Election Commission of India has a rich history of conducting 17 general elections and 400 assembly polls.

The tenure of the current Lok Sabha is set to conclude on June 16, necessitating the constitution of a new House before that date. Similarly, the tenures of the Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha assemblies are also slated to end in June.
