New Delhi, In a shocking turn of events, the sanctity of the Lok Sabha was violated today as two individuals breached security, leaping from the public gallery into the chamber. The intruders, as chaos unfolded, released tear gas, prompting a swift evacuation of Members of Parliament (MPs). The gravity of the situation led BJP member Rajendra Agrawal, overseeing the session, to adjourn proceedings until 2 pm.

MP Arvind Sawant, detailing the incident to the media, revealed that the intruders navigated the benches after their dramatic entry, releasing an unidentified yellow gas that induced a burning sensation in the noses of those present. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, adding to the account, confirmed that the individuals were carrying tear gas canisters. Notably, the disruption occurred during the crucial Zero Hour.

Chowdhury expressed deep concern about the security lapse, particularly given the significance of the day – the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack. He highlighted the seriousness of the situation, considering the sacrifice of lives during the 2001 attack.

Both intruders were swiftly apprehended within the Parliament premises and taken into custody by security forces for interrogation. To contain the situation, the watch and ward staff cordoned off the affected areas, securing the Lok Sabha chamber and the surrounding gallery.

This alarming incident prompts a critical review of the Parliament’s security measures, especially in light of ongoing discussions about the new Parliament building. The breach raises questions about the efficacy of current security protocols and the need for enhanced measures to safeguard the sanctity of parliamentary proceedings.
