In a sweeping victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the dominant force in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, leading in 160 of the 230 seats. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s strategic implementation of the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ is credited as a game-changer for the BJP.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia commended the impact of the Ladli Behna Yojana on the election results, attributing the BJP’s commanding lead to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s initiatives. Scindia, a former Congress member who joined the BJP in 2020, highlighted the dual benefits of the party’s Central leadership and the state government’s welfare initiatives.
The Ladli Behna Yojana, a women-focused welfare scheme, played a crucial role in the BJP’s electoral strategy. Eligible women from economically disadvantaged families receive ₹1,250 monthly under this scheme. While the Congress criticized it as an electoral tactic, BJP leaders defended it as a significant step towards women’s empowerment.
“Ladli Behna scheme is a game-changer, and the full credit for it goes to Shivraj Singh Chouhan,” said Scindia.
The BJP’s multifaceted approach included leveraging welfare schemes and deploying Central ministers to counter any anti-incumbency against Chouhan. The Ladli Behna Yojana, with its focus on women’s welfare, resonated strongly with voters.
As BJP’s lead solidified, not only in Madhya Pradesh but also in Rajasthan, the Ladli Behna Yojana emerges as a key factor in the party’s success. Meanwhile, Congress faces setbacks, with BJP positioned to capture Chhattisgarh, and Congress leading in Telangana to unseat the BRS government.
