New Delhi,  In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old Muslim woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore faced physical assault by her brother-in-law for allegedly voting for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently held Assembly elections.

The victim, identified as Samina B, reported that the attack occurred in Ahmedpur on December 4, 2023, while she was celebrating the BJP’s significant electoral victory in the state. The altercation escalated when her brother-in-law, Javed Khan, objected to her support for the party and began using abusive language.

When Samina questioned Javed’s language, the situation turned violent, leading to her being thrashed with a stick. She sustained injuries to her hands and other parts of her body. Javed Khan also reportedly issued threats, warning her against continuing her support for the BJP.

Sehore Police took swift action upon receiving Samina’s complaint, registering a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Sections 294 (obscene words in public), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (criminal act by several persons).

A police official assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the accused promptly. Samina, seeking justice, met Sehore’s District Magistrate, Praveen Singh Adhayach, on December 8, urging strict action in the case.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, she disclosed, “He (Javed Khan) was angry as I voted for the BJP. I received several injuries after being beaten by him. Today, DM has promised to conduct an inquiry in the case and take action.”

This incident highlights the intensity of political sentiments and the need for maintaining civility in democratic discourse, even within families.
