New Delhi: Recent intelligence reports from Canada have unveiled a grim development in the criminal underworld. Sukhdool Singh, alias Sukha Duneke, a prominent member of the notorious Davinder Bambiha gang hailing from the Moga district, has fallen victim to a deadly inter-gang rivalry. Unconfirmed sources suggest that this brutal assassination occurred in Winnipeg, Canada, echoing the similar fate met by terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar during inter-gang warfare in Surrey on June 19. Nijjar was subjected to a hail of bullets, with at least 15 rounds fired.

Sukhdool Singh, known as Sukha Duneke, had a checkered past. In 2017, he absconded from India to Canada, utilizing counterfeit documents, subsequently accumulating a total of seven criminal cases against him.

What adds a layer of complexity to this situation is the alarming number of Punjab-based gangsters who have sought refuge beyond India’s borders to evade the law. These individuals have left the country using Indian passports, forged travel documents, or the Nepal route in the past. Among these hideaways, Canada is emerging as a prominent sanctuary, and it now accuses India of orchestrating the political assassination of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) member Hardeep Singh Nijjar, albeit without concrete evidence.

The list of such fugitives is extensive and includes:

Canada

1. Arshdeep Singh, aka Arsh Dala, from Moga

2. Charnjeet Singh, aka Rinku Bihla, from Barnala

3. Gurpinder Singh, aka Babu Dala, from Ludhiana

1. Supreet Singh from Batala

Sukha Duneke was not just an escapee; he played a pivotal role in aiding, financing, and strengthening the Davinder Bambiha gang’s operations in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. While having inclinations towards pro-Khalistan outfits, he was primarily involved in extortion calls and contract killings.

Duneke’s criminal record is extensive, with over 20 cases of murder and other heinous crimes registered against him in Punjab and nearby states. On March 14 last year, he was involved in a conspiracy to murder kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal during a kabaddi match in Jalandhar.

The assassination of Sukha Duneke serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by criminal elements with international reach.
