Patna: The Education Department is set to make appointments for the positions of Principal and Head Teachers in government schools across the state. With over 6,000 vacancies in secondary and higher secondary schools, the department has proposed recruitment in more than 40,000 primary schools. District officials have been sent proposals for roster clearances for these positions.
Only 421 Principals could be selected, according to official sources. An announcement for the recruitment of these positions is expected to be sent to the Bihar Public Service Commission on Monday. The Education Department has confirmed this information officially, anticipating the release of advertisements prior to the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.
In 2022, the Bihar Public Service Commission had issued an advertisement for the appointment of 6,421 Principals, but only 421 could be selected, with 380 joining. This left around 6,000 positions vacant for the appointment of Principals in approximately 40,000 primary schools.
According to sources, there are vacant positions for Principals in 40,000 primary schools across the state. The Bihar Public Service Commission had previously released an advertisement for the recruitment of Primary Teachers for various 40,506 vacant positions. However, technical glitches prevented the examination from taking place, causing a two-year delay in these recruitments.
On another note, departmental sources suggest that the Education Department is considering allowing appointed teachers to take the competency exam up to five times instead of the current three. The proposal is under consideration, acknowledging that appointed teachers are academically proficient and have passed the Bihar Public Service Commission exam to become school teachers. They only need to pass the competency exam to break the narrative that appointed teachers are less academically proficient, requiring a demonstration through the examination process.
