The blistering heat in Bihar has claimed over 70 lives, with people succumbing to the oppressive conditions at railway stations and on trains. On Thursday, temperatures soared past 45 degrees Celsius in several districts, with Buxar hitting over 47 degrees and Aurangabad surpassing 46 degrees. The intense heat caused numerous fatalities, with people collapsing on the streets and finding no respite even indoors.
Railway Stations Witness Fatalities
The extreme heat led to deaths at railway stations as well. At Mokama and Barh stations, two passengers died on the platforms. One of the deceased at Mokama was identified as Manish Kumar from Begusarai. At Barh station, a 50-year-old woman from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to the heat.
Deaths on Trains
Passengers traveling on trains were not spared either. At Jamalpur station, a passenger died while traveling in the general coach of the down Gaya-Howrah Express. This followed a similar incident on Wednesday, where a 22-year-old from Bhagalpur district was found dead in the general coach of the down Lokmanya Tilak-Bhagalpur Superfast Express. He had fallen ill near Kiul station and was declared dead by doctors at Jamalpur station.
The oppressive heatwave has left Bihar reeling, with temperatures feeling as high as 50 degrees Celsius in some areas. Residents are advised to stay indoors and take precautions as the extreme weather continues.
