Panaji: In a startling revelation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has uncovered a scheme involving Pakistani terrorists based in the Middle East smuggling gold through the airports in Goa. The funds generated from these illicit operations are alleged to be financing anti-national activities in India, as per reports by Murari Shetye.

Over the past three months, the DRI has seized 3kg of gold worth Rs 10 crore, with smugglers utilizing both the Mopa and Dabolim airports for smuggling operations. Recent investigations have prompted heightened vigilance by the agency.

DRI suspects that gold is being smuggled through Mopa airport daily since the commencement of international flights. “When international flights began operations from Mopa airport, smugglers assessed its vulnerabilities and started using the airport to smuggle gold,” stated the DRI.

This revelation underscores the increasing sophistication and international connections of smuggling operations, with terrorists using unconventional means to finance their activities.
