In a significant development, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has taken strict action following a security breach in the Parliament. Eight personnel—identified as Rampal, Arvind, Vir Das, Ganesh, Anil, Pradeep, Vimitt, and Narendra—have been suspended due to reported lapses.
The breach occurred during the Winter session when two intruders, later identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, entered the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitor gallery during Zero Hour. The incident coincided with the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack. The intruders released yellow gas from canisters and shouted slogans before being subdued by Members of Parliament.
Simultaneously, outside the Parliament premises, two individuals, including a woman, identified as Amol Shinde and Neelam Devi, sprayed colored gas and chanted slogans against authoritarianism. The four individuals were part of a larger group of six people who reportedly planned the entire incident.
The Opposition members in the Lok Sabha responded to the breach by raising slogans during the Question Hour, demanding a statement from the government on the matter. Speaker Om Birla emphasized that the security of the Parliament complex falls under the jurisdiction of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
Union minister Rajnath Singh urged caution, stating, “We should not give passes to those who create disturbances.” The case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has initiated an inquiry into the incident, forming an Enquiry Committee led by Anish Dayal Singh, DG, CRPF. The committee comprises members from various security agencies and experts.
This breach has raised concerns about the overall security apparatus, prompting a thorough investigation into the lapses and a review of the existing security protocols.
