Patna: Patna College, a constituent unit of Patna University (PU) celebrated its 162nd foundation day on Tuesday.

PU vice-chancellor Krishna Chandra Sinha hoisted the college flag with former VC Rash Bihari Prasad Singh as the chief guest.

Addressing the teachers, students and alumni on the occasion, Singh recalled his own student days in this institution and said it was then considered to be a matter of pride.

In his presidential remarks, Sinha said even though the college has had a glorious past, its “present” needs some improvement. Efforts are being made to prepare the college to face the modern challenges and compete globally. The teachers and students of the college, who do not lag behind their counterparts of any other institution in the country, must strive hard to help college regain its leadership role in the academic world.

College principal Sanjay Kumar Sinha called upon the students to maintain peace in their college and hostels and ensure all-round development of their alma mater.

Three teachers, namely, Iftekar Hussain, Hira Mandal and Navin Arya, who retired last year, were felicitated. Besides, nine students of the college, namely, Saba Parween, Jayesh Kumar Sinha, Hadiqua Khalid, Sidharth Krishna, Rishi Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Raksha, Piyush Priydarshi, and Awanish Kumar, who secured top positions in the university examinations, were also felicitated at the function.
