In a ceremonial event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of Surat airport in Gujarat on Sunday. The state-of-the-art integrated terminal is designed to accommodate 1,200 domestic passengers and 600 international passengers during peak hours, with the potential to increase peak hour capacity to 3,000 passengers. The annual handling capacity is expected to rise to 55 lakh passengers, according to an official statement.

Reflecting the rich local culture and heritage, the terminal building serves as the gateway to Surat city, boasting a design that encapsulates the essence of the region. The interior and exterior are crafted to create a distinctive sense of place for visitors.

During the inauguration, PM Modi unveiled the commemorative plaque at the new terminal and familiarized himself with its facilities. The event witnessed the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister Darshana Jardosh, Lok Sabha member and BJP’s state unit chief CR Paatil, and State Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
