Jaipur, In the midst of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) anticipation for the announcement of the chief minister in Rajasthan, various prominent communities are actively lobbying for cabinet berths for their leaders. Rajputs, Jats, Brahmins, Vaishyas, and Gujjars are making strategic moves to secure their influence within the prospective government.
The 200-member assembly allows for a maximum of 29 ministers, with additional key positions such as speaker, deputy speaker, chief whip, deputy chief whip, and parliamentary secretaries. These roles are considered influential, with a maximum of 10 parliamentary secretaries appointed.
In a recent event organized by Rajput bodies in Delhi, the Khastriya Dharam Sansad at Ramlila Maidan aimed to highlight the community’s role in supporting the BJP governments in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Mahipal Singh Makrana, the national president of Shri Rajput Karni Sena, emphasized the need for Rajput representation, stating, “Rajasthan should have a Rajput chief minister as the community has built support for the BJP.”
With 20 MLAs from the Rajput community securing victories in the recent polls, the demand for significant representation is evident. Similar sentiments are echoed by the Brahmin community, with Gabbar Katara, the Youth President of Sarv Brahman Mahasabha, urging the BJP to allocate at least three cabinet berths to Brahmin MLAs.
In the lead-up to the assembly polls, major communities, including Brahmins, Jats, Rajputs, Vaishyas, and Gujjars, held public meetings demanding support for the party that would declare a chief minister from their respective communities. The expectations for representation are high, considering the influence these communities wielded during the previous Raje government (2013-2018).
Jat leaders, representing the largest community in the state, are adopting a wait-and-watch approach. The demand for a Jat chief minister is emphasized, considering the significant number of Jat winners in the polls.
Meanwhile, the Meena community’s leader, Kirori Lal Meena, who won the assembly polls from Sawai Madhopur, is gaining attention on social media, with some advocating for his nomination as the CM of Rajasthan.
As the BJP awaits the announcement of the chief minister, these community-driven lobbying efforts underscore the complexity of the political landscape and the expectations of diverse constituencies.
