In a resounding triumph, the esteemed Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Shaktikanta Das, has attained the zenith of international recognition. Renowned US-based Global Finance magazine has conferred upon him the distinguished title of the world’s premier central banker. This accolade, illuminated by an ‘A’ grade rating within the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023, unequivocally positions Das at the helm of an elite triumvirate of central bank governors who have garnered the illustrious ‘A’ rating.

The annual Central Banker Report Cards by Global Finance magazine meticulously assess central bank governors’ performance, extolling those who have exhibited exceptional acumen through ingenious, inventive, and tenacious strategies. It is imperative to note that this evaluation encompasses a comprehensive array of facets, including the successful management of inflation, the pursuit of economic growth objectives, the maintenance of currency stability, and adept interest rate governance.

The spectrum of ratings spans from ‘A’ for exceptional achievements to ‘F’ for lamentable failures. Shaktikanta Das’s sterling performance has propelled him into the ‘A’ echelon, signifying unparalleled excellence. Alongside him, Switzerland’s Governor Thomas J Jordan and Vietnam’s central bank luminary, Nguyen Thi Hong, have also secured the coveted ‘A’ ratings in this appraisal.

The report underscored the pivotal role of central banks in assuaging the turmoil of inflation, exacerbated by burgeoning demand and disrupted supply chains. Furthermore, central banks have played a pivotal role in stabilizing economies worldwide.

In a felicitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Congratulations to RBI Governor Shri Shaktikanta Das. This is a proud moment for India, reflecting our financial leadership on the global stage. His dedication and vision continue to strengthen our nation’s growth trajectory.”

It is noteworthy that Shaktikanta Das was earlier conferred with the prestigious ‘Governor of the Year’ accolade at the Central Banking Awards 2023 in London. This distinction not only underscores India’s financial leadership on the global stage but also reaffirms Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commendation for Das’s unwavering dedication and visionary contributions to fortifying the nation’s economic growth.

This monumental achievement not only reverberates through the hallowed corridors of global finance but also underscores India’s indomitable prowess in the world of banking and economic stewardship.
