In response to the Supreme Court’s recent decision affirming the Indian government’s move to abrogate Article 370 in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, China has proposed a diplomatic dialogue between India and Pakistan to address the longstanding Kashmir issue. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution, citing the UN charter, UNSC resolutions, and relevant bilateral agreements.

China’s position remains consistent on this matter, considering it a historical dispute between India and Pakistan. Mao stressed the importance of settling the dispute through peaceful means, underscoring the significance of dialogue and consultations to ensure regional peace and stability.

Pakistan, a close ally of China, expressed that the Supreme Court’s decision regarding Article 370 holds “no legal value” and asserted that international law does not recognize India’s actions of August 5, 2019, as lawful.
