Patna: In a recent municipal corporation meeting, a decision was made to install a 243-feet tall statue of India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, near the Ganga Ghat. This statue, to be erected on the Ganges riverbank in Patna, will surpass the height of the Statue of Unity dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat, making it the world’s tallest statue at 61 meters taller than the Statue of Unity.

The proposal was approved in the eighth general meeting of the empowered permanent committee of the Patna Municipal Corporation. Mayor Seeta Sahu highlighted that Dr. Rajendra Prasad served as the Chairman of the Patna Municipal Corporation in 1923, and on the occasion of his centenary, the proposal was passed by the empowered committee and forwarded to the state government. The municipality will provide land and necessary permits, while the state government will be responsible for the construction and installation of the statue.

Mayor Sahu emphasized that not only was Patna the workplace of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, but his memorial is also located in the city. The statue’s construction is planned near Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s memorial on the Ganges bank, and the surrounding areas will be developed into a tourist attraction after its installation.

The statue’s height is designed to be equivalent to the number of members in the legislative assembly. It will be placed on a 200-feet high pedestal, making the total height approximately 1,000 feet, visible from several kilometers away.

Demand for a statue in memory of Dr. Rajendra Prasad has been a long-standing request, recognizing his invaluable contribution to India’s freedom struggle and post-independence era. The hope is to receive the government’s approval for the construction of the Statue of Vision in honor of Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

During a celebration organized on Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s birth anniversary, BJP’s state president Samrat Chaudhary assured the public that if the BJP forms the government in Bihar, significant initiatives will be undertaken to honor Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s legacy, including the construction of the Statue of Vision, replicas of constitutional assembly, and a presidential library.
