Surat, In a significant development for Surat Airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced that the airport’s overall capacity will see a threefold increase with the inauguration of its new terminal building. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to unveil the terminal during his visit to Surat on December 17.

The Union Cabinet recently approved the proposal to declare Surat Airport as an international airport, making it a gateway for international travelers. The expansion, costing ₹353 crore, aims to meet growing demands and streamline operations for the diamond and textile industries.

The new terminal, designed to handle 1,200 domestic passengers and 600 international passengers during peak hours, incorporates features reflecting Surat’s culture and heritage. With sustainability measures like a solar power plant and rainwater harvesting, the inauguration by Prime Minister Modi is expected to boost regional development and economic prowess.
