In a recent announcement, the University Grants Commission (UGC) revealed plans to revise the syllabus for the National Eligibility Test (NET). UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar stated that an expert panel would be formed to undertake this crucial task. The UGC-NET, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), serves as both a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) exam and an eligibility test for assistant professor appointments in various subjects.
The decision to update the syllabi comes in the wake of the National Education Policy (NEP) introduced in 2020, emphasizing multidisciplinary curricula and holistic education. While the UGC initiated a similar process in 2017, the current move aligns with the evolving landscape of higher education.
Candidates will be informed well in advance of the implementation of the new syllabus to ensure a smooth transition.
