The United Kingdom’s Minister of State for the Middle East, South Asia, and UN, Tariq Ahmad, embarks on a visit to India, unveiling two UK-funded sustainability projects. The British High Commission announced that Ahmad will kickstart a heat mitigation initiative in collaboration with Tamil Nadu’s State Planning Commission in Chennai. This project aims to provide recommendations to address extreme heat-related fatalities and the preservation of crucial ecosystems.

Additionally, Ahmad will launch an electronic and battery waste management project, working closely with the Tamil Nadu Department of Environment and Climate Change to formulate strategies for reducing battery waste.

During his visit, Ahmad expressed eagerness to explore collaborations in sectors like clean energy. He highlighted the importance of fostering joint innovation projects with dynamic Indian businesses, spanning renewable manufacturing to financial services, leveraging the strong trade partnership between the UK and India.

In parallel, Ahmad is set to deliver the keynote speech at the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet and participate in the upcoming Biennial Investors’ Summit at Vibrant Gujarat.

The visit coincides with the fourteenth round of free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations between India and the UK, showcasing the nations’ commitment to deepening their economic ties. The FTA talks, having completed 13 rounds, cover complex issues such as goods, services, and investment.
