The recent security breach in the Lok Sabha, resulting in the suspension of over a dozen MPs, has ignited a heated debate in Parliament. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey questioned the opposition’s insistence on obtaining a statement from PM Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah, asserting that the Lok Sabha security falls under the purview of the Lok Sabha secretariat, not the government.

Dubey referred to historical incidents of security breaches in Parliament, such as 1974 and 1994, emphasizing that even during those events, the PM and home minister were not questioned. He tweeted, “The security of the Lok Sabha is the responsibility of the Lok Sabha secretariat and not the government, why will the home minister answer on this.”

In a series of tweets, Dubey drew parallels to past incidents, triggering a strong reaction from opposition leaders. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram dismissed the comparison, stating, “So many precedents in Parliament are getting violated today. Something very serious happened on the 13th of December. Accountability has to be fixed. It is only incumbent on the government to give a statement.”

Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal criticized Dubey’s remarks, expressing concerns about the security of the capital and the country. The December 13 security breach involved intruders spraying yellow gas in the Lok Sabha, leading to arrests and charges under UAPA.
