Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP), Anjani Kumar, faced suspension by the Election Commission of India on Sunday for violating the model code of conduct during the vote counting for Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.

IPS officer Anjani Kumar assumed the position of Telangana DGP less than a year ago but was suspended by the EC for engaging in activities against the election code during the ongoing vote counting process. The suspension decision was prompted by Anjani Kumar, along with other police officials, meeting a contesting candidate during the vote counting.

The Election Commission cited this action as a clear indication of a mala fide intention to seek favor, leading to Anjani Kumar’s suspension. The IPS officer, known for his distinguished career, held key positions such as Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, DG of Telangana’s Anti Corruption Bureau, and ADG (Law and Order) of Telangana.

Five Points about IPS Officer Anjani Kumar:

1. Anjani Kumar assumed the role of Telangana DGP in December 22, succeeding M Mahendra Reddy.

2. He is an IPS officer from the 1990 batch, showcasing a career marked by excellence and commitment.

3. Kumar served as the Chief of ‘Greyhounds,’ an elite task force combating naxalism set up by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh police.

4. Apart from his policing skills, Anjani Kumar is recognized for his athletic prowess, winning awards for horse riding and swimming.

5. He was honored with the prestigious United Nations Peace Medal for promoting peace.
