New Delhi, In a groundbreaking achievement, IndiGo, India’s preferred carrier, has become the first Indian airline to transport 100 million passengers in a single calendar year, solidifying its position among the world’s top 10 airlines by passenger traffic. The announcement was made by the airline in a press statement.
Over the past six months, IndiGo has not only marked its presence on the global stage but has also expanded its reach with the addition of more than 20 international routes to its network. This achievement comes as IndiGo continues to strengthen its domestic connectivity. Looking ahead, the airline has ambitious plans to further expand by introducing new destinations such as Bali, Indonesia, and Medina, Saudi Arabia, in the coming months.
In November, IndiGo held a commanding 61.8% share of passengers carried in the domestic market, overshadowing competitors and showcasing its dominance. The airline is actively pursuing growth strategies, exemplified by its historic order of 500 Airbus A320 family planes earlier this year. With existing orders and upcoming deliveries, IndiGo boasts an impressive backlog of close to 1,000 planes scheduled for delivery over the next decade.
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, expressed immense delight at achieving this historic milestone. He credited the accomplishment to the love and trust shown by customers and the dedication of all IndiGo colleagues.
