In a speech at the Constitution Day celebrations, Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud emphasized that the Supreme Court has served as a “people’s court” for seven decades. He urged citizens not to fear approaching the courts, stating that legal processes are meant to resolve disagreements through established principles and processes.

CJI highlighted the court’s role in protecting personal liberty, ensuring accountability, safeguarding the rights of various groups, and addressing social issues.

He underlined the court’s commitment to delivering justice to citizens, making administrative processes citizen-centric.

Steps were taken to address prison overcrowding, with initiatives ensuring citizens feel the judiciary works for them.

CJI emphasized transparency with live-streamed court proceedings and the translation of judgments into regional languages.

Technology and Judiciary:

Introduction of ‘e-sewa kendras’ to involve citizens in the judicial process.

Launch of ‘e-SCR’ platform translating judgments into Hindi and other Indian languages.

Upcoming release of ‘FASTER’ application version 2.0 for timely transmission of judicial orders.

Constitution Day Significance:

Celebration symbolizes the success of India’s democracy, where the Constitution is not only maintained but internalized by the people.
