Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly rebuked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following Erdogan’s comparison of Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler. Erdogan accused Israel of war crimes during the Hamas conflict, claiming Western support for Israel makes them complicit. Netanyahu fired back, stating Erdogan, with a record of Kurdish genocide and imprisoning journalists, is in no position to preach morality.
In Erdogan’s remarks, he welcomed persecuted academics and scientists critical of Israel’s Gaza actions. Netanyahu countered by highlighting Erdogan’s own human rights abuses and dismissing any moral authority on the matter.
Turkey, a NATO member, has consistently advocated for a two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Erdogan has previously criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza, labeling Tel Aviv a “terror state.”
The ongoing Gaza situation involves over 20,900 Palestinians killed since Israel’s response to Hamas’ activities on October 7, with Turkey remaining critical of Israel’s actions.
