In a remarkable turn of events, the Congress party has staged a historic comeback in the Telangana legislative assembly polls, leading in 65 seats out of 119. The party’s dominance is evident as it surpasses the crucial 60-seat mark, leaving rival parties, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) trailing.
Congress supporters initiated celebrations across the state, with jubilant scenes witnessed at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, the party’s headquarters. The impressive performance signals a significant shift in the political landscape.
The BRS is currently trailing with leads in 37 seats, while surprisingly, the BJP is leading in 12 seats, and AIMIM is down to 4. The Congress Chief Ministerial candidate and state president, A Revanth Reddy, are leading in both Kodangal and Kamareddy assembly constituencies.
Despite leading in Gajwel constituency, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is trailing in Kamareddy. BRS has secured approximately 38% of the votes, while Congress has garnered a 40.7% vote share. BJP holds a 13.6% vote share, and BSP stands at 1.2%.
BRS seems to be making gains in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. However, at least six ministers from various parties are currently trailing in Telangana. Ministers A Indrakaran Reddy, Vemula Prashant Reddy, Koppula Eswar, Puvva Ajay Kumar, and Errabelli Dayakar are among those facing challenges.
On the BRS front, Ministers K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao are leading in Sircilla and Siddipet constituencies, respectively. Minister Sabita Indra Reddy is leading in Maheshwaram.
The overall outcome suggests a noteworthy resurgence for the Congress party, with potential implications for the political landscape in Telangana.
