Saraswati Devi, known as ‘Mauni Mata,’ from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, will end her three-decade vow of silence after the inauguration of the Ram temple. She commenced her vow on the day of the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992, pledging to speak only when the Ram temple is inaugurated.
Devi, traveling to Ayodhya, used sign language and writing to communicate with family members during her vow. Despite a brief break for an hour of speech daily until 2020, she observed complete silence since the foundation for the temple was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Her son, Hare Ram Agarwal, mentioned, “The day Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992, my mother took a vow to observe silence till the Ram Mandir was constructed in Ayodhya. She has been jubilant ever since the date of consecration of the temple was announced.”
Devi, invited by disciples of Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, will break her silence on January 22, marking the end of her long-standing vow.
