In a significant breakthrough, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) apprehended Jharkhand legislative assembly’s Deputy Secretary, Mo Shamim, and his two sons on Sunday in connection with the leaked question paper case of the Jharkhand Combined Graduate Level Exam 2023 (JSSC CGL). Multiple blank cheques and admit cards were seized from their possession. The ATS has made substantial progress in the investigation, conducting raids in Palamu and detaining three individuals.
Furthermore, the police have identified two youths in custody whose mobile phones contained leaked JSSC question papers. The authorities are now actively seeking information on the sender of the leaked papers. JSSC’s Joint Secretary, Madhumita Kumari, had filed a primary complaint against unknown individuals at Namkum police station in relation to the question paper leak case.

The complaint stated that on January 28th, during the third shift, the General Knowledge exam took place. On the same day, an email was sent with four pages containing answers to the General Knowledge exam. Upon cross-verification, it was confirmed that the question paper had been leaked. Subsequently, the exam was canceled, and a new date was set for February 4th. However, this exam was also later postponed. The irregularities in the exam led to widespread protests by students.
Search for Ravi Kishor in Palamu’s New Mohalla
A team from the ATS conducted a search on Saturday for Ravi Kishor, a resident of New Mohalla in Palamu district. Ravi Kishor had previously faced allegations of irregularities in competitive exams and had a history of imprisonment. The ATS had earlier conducted raids in Patna, Chennai, and Ranchi, detaining 11 individuals. The investigation is ongoing, with police questioning all those in custody.
Outraged students vandalized the Chairman’s car
Protesting against the alleged paper leak in the JSSC CGL Exam 2023, students in Ranchi demonstrated outside the JSSC (Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission) office. During the protest, agitated students not only demonstrated but also vandalized the car of JSSC Chairman Neeraj Sinha. The police intervened, resulting in injuries to some students. It’s worth noting that the exam, which took place on January 28th across 735 centers in Jharkhand, saw the participation of around three lakh candidates. Nearly 6.5 lakh candidates had applied for the JSSC CGL Exam 2023.
Babulal Marandi demands CBI probe
BJP State President Babulal Marandi had urged for a CBI investigation into the alleged paper leak in the JSSC CGL Exam conducted by JSSC on January 28th. Marandi emphasized that several students had circulated answer sheets on social media and WhatsApp even before the exam began. He accused the state government of corruption, calling for a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
