JSSC-CGL Paper Leak Case: Protests have erupted against the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) following the alleged leakage of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam 2023 question paper. Approximately 4,000 students demonstrated at the JSSC headquarters, with 15 individuals named as accused. Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, along with student organizations and BJP state president Babulal Marandi, has demanded a CBI investigation and the immediate removal of JSSC Chairman Neeraj Sinha, citing corruption allegations and exam irregularities.
Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi urged on social media for the immediate withdrawal of FIRs against students protesting the JSSC question paper leak. He called for a CBI investigation into the exam paper scandal and corrupt activities. Marandi emphasized the need to dismiss JSSC Chairman Neeraj Sinha promptly.
Accusations and protests: Following the leak, student leader Devendra Nath Mahato and thousands of aspirants protested at the JSSC headquarters. Allegedly, they attacked the car of JSSC Chairman Neeraj Sinha during the protest. Devendra Nath Mahato and 14 others have been named as accused in connection with the case. Additionally, primary charges have been filed against 4,000 students.
Demands of the protesting students: The protesting students demanded the cancellation of the January 28 examination and the postponement of the February 4 exam. They called for a CBI inquiry into the JSSC Chairman’s alleged involvement in the paper leak, his resignation, and the blacklisting of the agency conducting the CGL exam in favor of a new credible agency.
January 31 office siege: On January 31, students besieged the JSSC office, alleging that the agency had conducted exams for other positions as well, demanding a CBI inquiry into those exams. The ongoing student union’s agitation has intensified the demand for transparency and accountability in the examination process.
Accused individuals: Fifteen individuals, including Devendra Nath Mahato, Yogesh Chandra Bharti, Manoj Yadav, Sanjay Mehta, Baby Mahato, and others, have been named accused in the case. FIRs have been filed against 3,000 to 4,000 students for charges including disrupting government property and hindering official work.
Cancellation and suspension: The JSSC, in response to the protests and alleged paper leak, canceled the January 28 examination and suspended the February 4 exam. The student leaders, including Devendra Nath Mahato, have claimed threats to their lives and demanded security.
Allegations against JSSC Chairman: Yogi Chandra Bharti and Mahendra Prasad accused coaching mafias and JSSC Chairman Neeraj Sinha’s close associates of conspiring to defame the student union’s protest. They claimed innocent students preparing for exams are being targeted, and Sinha is attempting to protect those involved in the paper leak.
Security for Devendra Nath Mahato: Yogi Chandra Bharti and Mahendra Prasad urged the government to provide security to Devendra Nath Mahato, claiming that he is receiving death threats from the gang allegedly involved in the paper leak. The union members alleged that Neeraj Sinha’s associates were also threatening them.
In the ongoing turmoil, the demand for a thorough investigation into the paper leak, accountability, and the safety of the students and leaders involved in the protests remains a pressing issue.
