Bollywood actress Kajol, renowned for her memorable portrayal of Anjali in the iconic film “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” recently disclosed in an interview that she had fervently expressed her desire to play the character of Tina, portrayed by Rani Mukerji. Despite her wish, filmmaker Karan Johar insisted she take on the role of Anjali, a character that ultimately became synonymous with Kajol’s on-screen persona.

In a candid moment during Rajeev Masand’s Netflix Actors’ Roundtable, Kajol shared, “I fought in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. I fought with Karan Johar; I wanted to play Tina’s role, and he was like, ‘No. You are playing Anjali.’ I was like, ‘But I want to play Tina’s role. You don’t know what I will do with Tina.’ Karan told me to shut up. I fought with him tooth and nail for 45 minutes but he refused categorically.”

“Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” released in 1998, became a Bollywood classic and earned Kajol a Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her stellar performance as Anjali. The revelation adds an intriguing layer to the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the film, showcasing the dedication and passion of the actors involved.

In a recent episode of “Koffee with Karan,” Kajol and Rani Mukerji revisited memories of the film. The candid conversation highlighted the unique dynamic between the two actors, emphasizing that while they may not share an extremely close relationship, it was a natural evolution over time.

Kajol and Rani Mukerji, both stalwarts of the Indian film industry, have continued to contribute to the cinematic landscape, showcasing their versatility in various projects.
