In response to a significant surge in travel interest to Lakshadweep, Paytm is offering a flat 10% discount on flight tickets using the promo code ‘FLYLAKSHA’. The move follows a remarkable 50-fold increase in travel searches to Lakshadweep on the Paytm platform.

Flights to Lakshadweep, particularly to its only airport in Agatti Island, can be accessed via Cochin International Airport, with Air India operating the flights. Paytm aims to further encourage travel by providing a “free cancellation” feature, allowing users to modify their travel plans without incurring any cancellation fees.

A Paytm spokesperson stated, “As a leader in mobile payments and the most preferred platform for travel bookings, we are excited to play a pivotal role in boosting domestic tourism to the tropical haven of Lakshadweep.”

This surge in interest and promotional efforts comes on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Lakshadweep. The captivating images from the Prime Minister’s trip have sparked widespread curiosity and inquiries about travel opportunities to the picturesque islands. Travel platforms and tour operators are witnessing heightened interest, with many inquiries about holiday packages, flight options, and accommodations.

Following PM Modi’s visit, a controversy ensued when a Maldives minister claimed that India, by promoting Lakshadweep, is shifting its focus from the Maldives as a tourist destination. Despite the controversy, the ‘Visit Lakshadweep’ campaign has garnered support from various entities, including the Indian Chamber of Commerce’s Aviation and Tourism Committee, travel agency EaseMyTrip, the Israeli embassy, and several celebrities.
