Congress has released its second list of 43 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday. The list includes Vaibhav Gehlot, the son of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and Nakul Nath, the son of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath.

Congress spokesperson K.C. Venugopal announced the list during a press conference, revealing that Gaurav Gogoi will contest from Jorhat in Assam, while Nakul Nath will vie for the Chhindwara seat in Madhya Pradesh. Rahul Kaswan, who recently joined Congress after leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been nominated as a candidate from the Churu constituency in Rajasthan.

The list comprises candidates from various categories, with 10 general candidates, 13 from Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 10 from Scheduled Castes (SCs), 9 from Scheduled Tribes (STs), and 1 Muslim candidate.

In the first list, released last week, Congress had announced 39 candidates, including prominent names like Rahul Gandhi, who will be contesting from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.

The party’s Central Election Committee, led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, finalized the candidates for states including Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and the union territory of Daman and Diu.

Of the total candidates, 76.7% belong to SCs, STs, OBCs, and minority communities. The age distribution of candidates is diverse, with 25 candidates below 50 years, 8 between 51 and 60, and 10 in the 61-70 age group.

The second list reflects Congress’s efforts to field a mix of experienced leaders and younger faces, aiming to present a dynamic and inclusive representation in the upcoming elections.
