MUMBAI: In a heart-wrenching scene at the special PMLA court, 74-year-old Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, currently under arrest in a money laundering case, expressed his despair, stating he would prefer to die in jail than endure his deteriorating health. The judge assured him of proper care for his mental and physical well-being.

Goyal, in judicial custody since September 14, emphasized his precarious health and missing his bedridden wife. The court, led by Special Judge M G Deshpande, pledged comprehensive support for Goyal’s health needs, acknowledging his physical struggles.

Last month, the court took cognizance of the chargesheet against Naresh Goyal, wife Anita Goyal, and four companies, highlighting the alleged embezzlement of public funds worth Rs 5,716.3 crore.

Goyal, appearing visibly frail with continuous tremors, requested to be produced before the judge. He detailed the challenges faced in seeking medical assistance, citing knee swelling, pain, and difficulties reaching healthcare in a timely manner.

The judge noted Goyal’s plea and assured that every measure would be taken for his health, considering his limitations and the inconvenience of transportation to the hospital.
