Lucknow, On the inaugural day of the year, Lucknow Metro experienced an unprecedented surge in daily ridership, expected to surpass the 1.30 lakh mark by the end of January 1, 2024. This record-breaking figure marks the highest single-day ridership since the metro’s establishment in 2017.
As of 7 pm, a staggering 1.05 lakh passengers had already utilized Lucknow Metro, surpassing the previous record set just six days prior on December 25, 2023, with a daily ridership of 93,237.
Managing Director Sushil Kumar expressed optimism, stating, “The New Year has begun on a very positive note as we recorded the highest-ever daily ridership of more than 1 lakh.” He attributed this surge to the metro’s commitment to providing a safe and efficient travel experience.
The surge in footfall is attributed to the state-of-the-art conveniences offered by Lucknow Metro. With UPSRTC buses and private taxis on strike, the metro emerged as the preferred choice due to its affordability, comparable to buses and auto-rickshaws.
In December 2023, Lucknow Metro achieved its highest monthly ridership of 22,77,491, surpassing the previous record set in August 2023. The daily average ridership also reached a new high in December, with 73,476 passengers compared to the previous highest daily average of 71,634 in September 2023.
An official from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) highlighted the success factors, including awareness campaigns, business carnivals, and celebratory events within metro premises. The surge reaffirms Lucknow Metro’s status as the city’s preferred mode of public transport.
