In a significant step towards enhancing rail connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir, the 49th Vande Bharat Express has been exclusively designated to serve the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link. This strategic decision aims to substantially improve transportation infrastructure and connectivity in the region.

The Northern Railway recently achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully conducting a 15-kilometer trial run of an electric train. This historic trial covered the distance from Banihal to Khari Railway Station in the Ramban district, showcasing the feasibility and effectiveness of electric trains in the region.

Operating as a medium-distance train service under Indian Railways, the Vande Bharat Express is comparable to the Shatabdi Express, connecting cities less than 10 hours apart. While the trainsets can achieve semi-high speeds, various factors such as speed restrictions, multiple stoppages, and traffic congestion impose limitations. The maximum permissible speed is capped at 160 km/h on the Delhi-Bhopal service section and 110–130 km/h on other routes.

During trials, the Vande Bharat Express demonstrated impressive speeds, reaching up to 183 km/h, surpassing the certified speed of 160 km/h. Notably, the train’s rapid acceleration and deceleration enable it to reach 100 km/h in just 52 seconds, contributing to its efficiency and agility. This unique feature promises enhanced rail services for the Jammu & Kashmir region.
