In anticipation of the upcoming Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, this newspaper provides a comprehensive glimpse into the profiles of the prominent candidates fielded by major student groups.

National Students’ Union of India (NSUI):

For the coveted position of President, NSUI has put forth Hitesh Gulia, a final-year Law Centre-I scholar, aged 23, who previously completed his undergraduate studies at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College.

Competing for the Vice President’s role is Abhi Dahiya, a 24-year-old pursuing a Master’s degree in Buddhist Studies.

Yakshana Sharma, a 24-year-old Hindu College graduate in the final year of LLB at the Campus Law Centre, is NSUI’s choice for Secretary.

Shubham Kumar Chaudhary, vying for Joint Secretary, boasts a background that includes schooling at GD Goenka School in Vasant Kunj, followed by a graduation from the College of Vocational Studies and ongoing pursuit of a Master’s degree in Buddhist Studies.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP):

Tushar Dedha is ABVP’s nominee for the President’s role, having completed his graduation at Satyawati College and currently pursuing a Master’s in Buddhist Studies. He joined ABVP in 2015 and has a history of successful election wins.

Sushant Dhankar, the ABVP candidate for Vice President, holds a BA (Honours) in English from Satyawati College and is now pursuing a Master’s in Buddhist Studies. Notably, he’s a state-level shooting champion.

Aprajita, ABVP’s Secretary candidate, hails from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, with a BA (Honours) degree in history from Dyal Singh College. She, too, is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Buddhist Studies.

Sachin Baisla, ABVP’s candidate for Joint Secretary, graduated from Ramanujan College and is also pursuing a Master’s in Buddhist Studies.

All India Students’ Association (AISA):

AISA has nominated Aiyesha Ahmad Khan for the President’s post, Anushka Choudhary for Vice President, Aditya Pratap Singh for Secretary, and Anjali Kumari for Joint Secretary.

Aiyesha Ahmad Khan, from Miranda House College and Patna, is aiming for the President’s seat.

Anushka Choudhary, a Law Faculty student at Delhi University and resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, seeks to become Vice President.

Aditya Pratap Singh, an AISA activist since 2019, competes for Secretary. He entered the university in 2019 and has been actively involved with AISA.

Anjali Kumari, a first-year student from Miranda House, is vying for Joint Secretary.

The eagerly awaited DUSU elections will transpire on September 22, marking a return after a three-year hiatus, with the last elections transpiring in 2019. SFI’s Arif Siddiqui, a graduate of Zakir Hussain College enrolled in Masters in Buddhist Studies, will be competing for the position of President. Ankit Birpali, a first-year student of Campus Law Centre, is ABVP’s candidate for Vice President, and Aditi Tyagi, a student of MA Philosophy, seeks the post of Secretary. Nishtha Singh from Bihar is the candidate for the post of Joint Secretary.

It’s noteworthy that the student union elections were deferred in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with disruptions to the academic calendar also affecting their conduct in 2022.
